Notes for the journey
Incahuasi Island: cacti, access and salt-flat tours
Incahuasi interrupts the white horizon with rock and cacti. It is a familiar salt-flat stop, but water can change the crossing and the day’s itinerary; inclusion on a sample route is not a year-round access guarantee.

The short answer
Confirm access and admission before booking. Incahuasi and the larger Isla del Pescado are different places.
Identify the correct island
The national portal lists Incahuasi and Isla del Pescado separately. Some listings use the names interchangeably, so ask which site is actually visited. Incahuasi offers a walk among cacti on a rocky rise surrounded by salt. It is also entirely separate from Isla del Sol on Lake Titicaca.
Why the stop can change
The official wet-season window is December–April. Water that creates reflections can also limit island access. Ask how the operator decides whether to cross and what replaces Incahuasi if it cannot. We have not verified a universal seasonal opening rule. If cacti are your priority, say so; a mirror promise does not answer an access question.
Admission and walking time
One researched offer mentions 30 BOB for foreigners while another uses a different US-dollar figure. These are seller statements, not a certified uniform 2026 authority tariff. Confirm current amount, inclusion and currency. Ask how much walking time you receive and judge the effort at your own pace, especially soon after arriving at altitude.
Visit without damaging the site
Bring sun protection, water and secure footwear. Follow paths and local instructions; do not remove cacti, rock or salt as souvenirs. Take photographs without blocking the trail. If lunch and the island share one stop, check the time for each so that a long meal does not leave you rushing uphill.
Find the island in the sequence of your tour
A salt-flat day and a crossing can both mention Incahuasi, but reach it at different points in the journey. A Uyuni day may combine it with Colchani, the salt museum and perspective photographs. In the researched San Pedro round trips, the salar can come later in the circuit. Do not choose a departure direction solely from the first photograph of cacti.
Compare the available time on foot with lunch and photography time. Ask whether the itinerary offers the island walk or merely a view from the stopping area. If you prefer to stay near the vehicle, establish a meeting place and return time so the guide knows your plan. There is no obligation to match another traveller’s walking pace.
Four questions that resolve most booking confusion
First ask which island is intended when the seller uses both Incahuasi and Pescado. Second ask whether the current water conditions allow the planned visit. Third ask whether admission is included and, if not, the currency and expected payment on the date. Finally ask what replaces the stop and what booking terms apply to that change.
Keep those answers with the selected option. The island is a feature of a route through a large salt flat, not an independently guaranteed ferry destination. A larger contribution toward a private tour may change pacing but cannot make an unsafe crossing possible. For visitors with access requirements, describe walking and mobility needs in advance: rocky paths among cacti should not be interpreted as step-free access from a short map distance.
